About this site
This blog features the work of Columbia Journalism School graduate students enrolled in the Data Visualization Spring 2026 class with Adjunct Assistant Professor Jon Keegan.
Students in this class learned how to work with large data sets — how to clean, organize, visualize and write about them. The tools used included Jupyter notebooks (Python), Datawrapper, Flourish, and Google Sheets. Students interviewed subject matter experts, and often people who were represented in the data sets the wrote about.
